We are getting the week rolling by starting off with a brand new mix coming to us from Graintable!
Based out of Portland, Graintable might be a familiar name to you if you’ve had the chance to checkout any of the bass communities between BC and Oregon. We connected with Graintable during our time in Seattle last fall for the Decibel Festival, another city he frequently plays, and were immediately smitten with his sound. Hence, why he’s being featured on this week’s episode of the Dub Selekta Podcast series.
As his bio accurately states, Flexing a unique style deeply indebted to hip-hop yet gazing forward to emerging electronic music styles, Graintable is at a place where sweet and icy synthesizers collide with heavy neck-snapping rhythms. He’s had releases on labels like Run Riot Records, Simplify Recordings, Innerflight Music, and Car Crash Set. His last release, in which he collaborated on with Kimnusico Trio, was the second in the No Northwest series showcasing producers from the Pacific Northwest and the first track off the EP even caught XLR8R’s eye. The album is an exploration in Graintable’s signature trunk rattling sounds while combining elements of American glitch hop and London grime. If you’d like to check out the EP surf on over to Beatport for previews.
Another thing keeping Graintable busy is his involvement in PDneXt; a new monthly night at Holocene in Portland with residents Natasha Kmeto, Danny Corn and Plumblyne. If you’d like to checkout the night and want more info, the facebook page or see the Q&A on Holocene’s site has you covered.
This particular mix (download link) that Graintable has done up for us is perfect for anyone who is enjoys the sounds of Kingdom, MiMOSA or EPROM. It takes you on an adventurous journey through highs and lows with numerous points that left us curling up our faces in gritty bass appreciation. Clocking in at just under an hour, we found it hard to resist playing it over and over again. And we challenge you to try just playing it once!
If you want more info on Graintable, you can check him out on all the usual social networking sites; website, facebook, soundcloud and twitter. As always, big ups to Construct for providing us with the artwork for this mix. Enjoy!
